Leonardo Mayer, the Argentine tennis player, won the Challenger Guayaquil title, last night, in Ecuador by defeating Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi. Mayer played the final match brilliantly to snatch the title.
The Corrientes born player, who is currently seated at no 77 in the ATP world ranking, brightly defeated Lorenzi with 6-2, 6-4. The match went on for around 1 hr 25 minutes at the famous Annex Guayaquil Tennis Club.
This year, the Argentine professional won 9 tournaments in the Challenger category, which is the second most important category after ATP.
Mayer expressed his feelings to a news channel by saying that he is very happy to win the title. This is his second Guayaquil title. The first one was in the year 2007 in Cuenca. Lorenzi said that it was great to play against Mayer as he is a great rival.
