Jurgen Melzer of Austria defeated Leonardo Mayer in straight sets , 7-6(4) 6-3, in Tokyo, Japan .  It was a tight encounter, Melzer served extremely well and with his swinging lefty serve it was always going to be difficult to break him.  Mayer was unable to convert 3 break point opportunities in the match and it proved the difference, Mayer saved 6/7 break points but the one Melzer took was enough to win him the match.
