The Wimbledon Men’s First Round match will take place on Court 5. Gael Monfils of France, the 21 seeded, will battle the non seeded Mayer of Argentina.

Leonardo Mayer is the favorite of Grand Slam and Gael Monfils must be meeting a tough challenge in today’s match.

The match between Leonardo Mayer and Gael Monfils will start sharp at 12:00 local English time in Court 5.

Gael Monfils is ranked second highest player in the French tennis and he is presently ranked as No. 20 in the world ATP tour ranking.

Leonardo Mayer became world No. 51 this year on June 7 in singles career and as doubles he was world No. 121 on July 23, 2007. Mayer began playing tennis when he was just nine years old.

At 2009 French Open Mayer qualified for the first time in Grand Slam. He defeated 15th seed James Blake in the first round in straight sets. However, in the second round he lost to Tommy Haas in 5 sets.

In 2008 he had won the Challenger singles title beating Sergio Roitman, but he again lost in 3 other finals.

Mayer at times looked extremely flustered and although portrayed his talent, sometimes made basic errors. He’s always improve and is young  so we’re expecting big things from the Argentinian. Final Score 5-7 6-3 6-3.

Leonardo Mayer has a decent draw and has a chance to do well at the Thai Open 2009. His first round opponent is Mischa Zverev (who seems to  have lost his last 8 matches in a row). Leo also won there last meeting in Montreal in straight sets.

Zverev has struggled with his form recently.
